BENGT LINDSTRÖM

Bengt Lindström was born in 1947 in Vaasa. After he completed his medical degree in 1975 at Helsinki University he specialized in child and adolescent medicine, first in Finland and Sweden in 1981 and later in other Nordic countries. Between 1981 and 1989 he worked as a clinical assistant at Umeå University. He received his Ph.D. at NHV 1994 with the thesis "The Essence of Existence on the Quality of Life of Children in the Nordic Countries". In 2002 he became associate professor of Health Promotion and Child Public Health at NHV and in Public Health at the University of Tampere. Four years later he reached also a senior lecturer in social policy at the Åbo Akademi University. 2006 was also the year he was appointed professor of health promotion at NHV. Since 2008 he is also a professor with the

 

same direction at Høgskolen i Buskerud.

His main work is now director of research for the Research Programme for Health Promotion Research Center on Public Health in Helsinki. Bengt has also for many years been involved in various international organizations. He leads since 2007 the International Union on Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) Global Thematic Working Group on Salutogenesis
