Call For Ideas

02.06.2010

CALL FOR IDEAS!
Guided by our vision “Caring for people where they are” the scientific committee has started to form a core program with key note lectures and symposia related to three main topics:

• Story of life and bodily expressions
• Education - in and for primary care
• Palliative care - where the patients are

The first topic addresses new insight from multidisciplinary research of high relevance for primary care, pointing towards a unified understanding of body and mind: How can GPs use this new insight to deliver a better and more comprehensive care for patients, for whom usual care so far has been unhelpful?

The second topic focuses on rural and community oriented medical education: How may future training and learning be adjusted to improve care for patients in their own contexts?

The third topic aims at exploring care for incurably diseased and dying patients and their families: How can GPs and allied health professionals provide care so that patients can stay at home or at least in their communities to the extent they desire?
What should you do?
We invite Nordic colleagues to bring forward ideas for symposia and workshops.

• This may be ideas related to the three core topics.
• We also welcome ideas related to any other topic relevant for general practice.

Symposium":
Session where three to five persons have prepared short introductions to throw light on a subject from various perspectives. This is followed by a discussion between the presenters and the audience. Total duration is 90 minutes.

"Workshop":
Session where two or more persons introduce a subject or professional challenge for an audience to create ideas and interactive involvement among all attending participants. Total duration 90 minutes

Given the broad and varied activity in research and professional development in general practice in the Nordic Countries, we hope to receive many creative suggestions. Ideas/themes and names of persons who may accept to be in charge of planning and running symposia and workshops should be e-mailed to the president of the scientific committee Ivar J. Aaraas (Ivar.Aaraas@uit.no)
